It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
