A 60-day journey around the Land Down Under was terminated following the death of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an revised communication, and said they had "issued a directive to the Commander" preventing any further travelers from boarding the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.
